GROSVENOR | Luxury walnut
Davonport’s superb Grosvenor kitchen was the flawless solution to Tina and her financier husband Robert’s quest for the ultimate American feel kitchen; perfect for dining with family and friends as well as corporate entertaining. Large appliances, sleek finishes and rich walnut cabinetry made this room a sophisticated amalgamation of American and English design.
For a well-travelled family used to the generous proportions of USA kitchens and appliances, Tina and Robert and their two children longed for a kitchen that had enough room for both their family dining requirements and supersized appliances. “We were looking for lots of space, somewhere for the entire family to be together that also had room for a very large fridge, freezer, ovens and wine cooler. It needed to be modern but homely, with some traditional touches.” Influenced by frequent stays in the USA, Tina and Robert’s main priority was to create a room on a grand scale that would still suit a traditional English home. Working closely with Richard the designer, a sophisticated, family-oriented space incorporating soft seating, table, chairs, a television and a welcoming entertaining space was cleverly designed.
The new design involved a significant amount of interior restructuring. The existing kitchen was removed, along with walls to the lounge, utility and boiler rooms, creating a very large open space. The restructuring left a large chimney in the centre of the main kitchen area, where an elegant glass-fronted gas fire was installed.
Guided by Richard, Tina selected bespoke cabinets from Davonport’s classic Grosvenor collection, with doors made from Black American Walnut featuring a ladder style. Davonport also created bespoke cabinetry to fit around the large appliances and walk-in cupboards for capacious storage space, including doors into the utility. The dark chocolate cabinetry blended perfectly with the marble worktop providing a stunning yet functional space built with the clients’ sociable lifestyle in mind. “It was important to make the space as sociable as possible, and we liked the idea of using natural materials.”
Tina and Robert had spent a lot of time abroad and fallen in love with the extra-large style appliances therefore one of their biggest priorities was to have extra-large appliances such as a giant American-style Sub-Zero fridge freezer. To thoroughly fulfill their brief, a giant American-style Sub-Zero fridge freezer, two wine coolers and two extra-wide 90cm Wolf ovens were seamlessly incorporated into the overall design.
“Without question, the space provided means we spend much more time together as a family, which was the intention from the outset, and we now have a space that we all enjoy being in. The newly finished kitchen interior is a pleasure and works extremely well for us on every level from everyday use to the corporate entertaining that we sometimes do.”
