Jubilee Party Recipes

Have you got plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee? 

Whether you’re attending an organised event or simply hosting a relaxed family gathering, here are 5 of our favourite British dessert recipes that are sure to go down a treat.

1. Victoria Sponge

This is the first British bake that springs to mind when we think of iconic cakes for celebrating. With a sweet strawberry jam and cream filling, the colours of the ingredients resemble those of Union Jack. 

The Victoria sponge/sandwich is also a great cake for personalising too; there are lots of creative designs online which include fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries.

2. Scones

Afternoon tea is quintessentially British, but without a scone is it even afternoon tea? 

We prefer a fruit scone for an extra sweet treat with lashings of jam and double cream, this BBC recipe is quick and easy. We would also recommend decorating them with a layer of freshly sliced strawberries to create an extra special party spread.

3. Mary’s royal cherry trifle

When you think of a traditional English summer spread a trifle is always one of the key desserts. This Mary Berry royal cherry trifle recipe includes a kick of kirsch for a traditional take on the pud.

4. Jubilee cupcakes recipe

Get your little ones involved in the preparations with this simple vanilla sponge cupcake recipe

We like the simplicity of the white icing and sprinkles, but any toppings in red, white or blue would look great.

5. Lemon Swiss roll and amaretti trifle

Finally, we couldn’t write a recipe blog for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and not include the official winning pudding.

The competition was run by royal grocer Fortnum and Mason, in partnership with the Big Jubilee Lunch Charity, to create a pudding that had a memorable story behind it, tasted delicious, and was fit for the 96-year-old Queen.

Jemma Melvin created the dessert, inspired by the lemon posset served at the Queen’s wedding to Prince Philip. The lemon swiss roll and amaretti trifle is made with layers of lemon curd swiss roll, custard, jelly, a mandarin coulis and amaretti biscuits.

Warning – this is a more time-consuming recipe, but we think the end result will be more than worth it.
