Tillingham | A social masterpiece

Following an extensive renovation project, Sarah and Steve, owners of this striking home based in Hove, East Sussex, wanted to work with one of our longstanding clients to design their dream kitchen.

The brief was to design a kitchen that had an infusion of modern influences but underpinned by beautiful classical cabinetry which made our Tillingham collection the perfect fit. Designed to have an understated English charm, the Tillingham is centred in the simplicity of a shaker style. Each cabinet has been meticulously crafted to the highest of standards.

At the heart of this kitchen is the kitchen island, which serves several functions. It is an area to prep food and cook, as well as offer both informal and formal seating. Choosing to have a curved L-shape island allowed for a curved in-built banquette seating area that provides a cosy seating area. An additional, more informal seating area was created along one side of the area in the form of a breakfast bar. Matching chairs and stools tied the spaces together.

Ensuring the island offer lots of practical storage, all under the counter space was utilised with either cupboards, deep drawers, dishwashers and the all-important wine fridge. Positioning the wine fridge at the end of the island, and close to the banquette seating meant family members and visitors could access the fridge without having to enter the main kitchen/cooking area.

Running parallel to the kitchen island is a long run of floor to ceiling cupboards. As avid cooks, the owners wanted plenty of oven space for entertaining. A bank of Miele ovens sits in the centre of the wall cabinets, along with a Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer. To finish the island, durable marble-effect quartz was used and finished with a lamb’s tongue edge profile.

The cabinets also play host to a dedicated breakfast station, with additional workspace and area for preparing toast and cereals. This meant that after a busy family morning, it can be shut away and sorted later that day. A pantry cupboard provides additional storage for the family, with a spice rack making use of the inside of the cupboard door. Most of the cabinetry in this kitchen has been painted in Farrow and Ball Wimborne White, with Walnut used for the kitchen island cabinetry.

“Our beautiful Davonport cabinetry is our favourite aspect of our new kitchen. The attention to detail is second to none, and we loved that we were able to choose walnut for the island, letting the beauty of it be on display day-in, day-out. It is a kitchen we know oozes quality and will be one we enjoy using for years to come.”
