Sparkford | Adding character to a new build
.
Designing a new-build home from scratch is a rare opportunity, one our client fully embraced. She took the lead on the layout of each room, including the kitchen, which she envisioned as a practical, inviting hub for both daily life and entertaining. Living on-site throughout the build gave her a unique, hands-on connection to the project, allowing decisions to evolve naturally as the structure came together.
As part of a new-build home, this kitchen was designed without the constraints of an existing footprint. She came to Davonport with a clear idea of how the space needed to work – both for everyday use and for entertaining – and our Sparkford range provided the ideal framework.

The cabinetry is painted in two tones: a deep Delft Blue on the island for contrast and gravitas, and a softer Satchel Grey around the perimeter to keep the overall palette calm and elegant.
Handles were chosen with similar attention to detail, with our client choosing the ‘Sterling’ collection by Crofts & Assinder in Brushed Satin Brass. The finish adds warmth without being showy and pairs beautifully with the Carrara Quartz worktops. These surfaces provide a light, durable base for food prep and family life, their soft veining subtly tying together the colour palette. A rounded breakfast bar, crafted from dark-stained Spekva oak, introduces natural texture and creates a sociable spot for coffee breaks or casual meals.

Dedicated and specially designed storage was high on our clients brief. Behind the scenes, bespoke joinery makes everyday life easier, from dovetailed drawers to purpose-built cupboards that keep the layout flowing and clutter-free. The walk-in pantry is hidden behind doors featuring our Soho-style fretwork, a feature piece the client specifically requested. It brings a layered visual interest and showcases how functional spaces can still have personality.

Appliance integration was approached with the same considered mindset. The kitchen features a mixture of appliances, including a Miele induction hob and dishwasher, alongside a Sub-Zero 762 fridge, freezer drawers and wine cooler. A Quooker Flex tap delivers boiling and filtered water on demand, while a Shaws of Darwen ceramic sink and built-in waste disposal unit add to the practicality of the space without interrupting its calm aesthetic.

One of the more complex aspects of the design came from a structural requirement: a ceiling-mounted extractor was specified but couldn’t be flush-fitted due to steel supports. Our solution was to build a bespoke ceiling box to house the extractor, keeping it aligned with the island and visually light, while also maintaining full functionality.
The result is a space that doesn’t try to be the focal point of the home but naturally becomes it. With clean lines, hard-working features and a palette that will age gracefully. It’s a room designed for living, for gathering, and for cooking.

The Sparkford kitchen elegantly blends luxurious sophistication with timeless art deco inspired elegance.
