Holkham | Creating the perfect kitchen for socialising
Working with one of our long-standing clients, Davonport’s Holkham range of cabinets was chosen as the bedrock to this light and airy family kitchen for a family of four based in Hove, East Sussex.
Nick and Katie’s brief was to create a kitchen that was to be the heart of the home where the family would be able to socialise and entertain. As the owner was a keen cook, there were clear instructions as to how the kitchen needed to flow, including a designated cooking zone, prep zone, and entertaining zone.
A large kitchen island was decided upon as there was space to play with. Because of the size of the island, it could have several functions, including providing additional prep areas and an informal seating area. Each end had deep cupboards for extra storage, while the decision was made not to have any appliances or detail on the island that would result in the worktop been cut.
The island was painted in a contrasting shade of Studio Green to the rest of the cabinets which were in Traffic White. It was decided to take this route so that the shaker cabinetry would be allowed to shine through and not be overpowered by an all-over bold colour. A large pantry style cupboard was designed, and the depth shortened so that it sat more like a dresser to provide an illusion of a longer work surface. Another must have feature was a beautiful Belfast sink in front of the large windows looking into the garden.
