Shoreditch Pink | Contemporary style, heritage detail
The beauty of creating a new kitchen as part of a conversion is the blank canvas the project offers. Nick and Rachel fell in love with this Davonport kitchen, while researching options for their new home in East Anglia. Working closely with a designer to realise their dream of an open plan kitchen, the result offers considered functionality as well as complementing the proportion and attention to detail of their property.
The overarching aim of the kitchen was to create a central area, that their family would want to spend time in – as well as making the most of their home’s stunning setting. The choice of a pink shaker style kitchen balances timeless elegance with contemporary style – and creates a space that’s sympathetic to the old part of the house, which dates back to the 16th century.
The family love to entertain so incorporating two ovens in the generously-proportioned island – also home to the hob – ensures that it’s easy to host a large extended family. Two dishwashers make it easy to keep on top of the clearing up, too. The centre-piece island doubles as a casual seating spot, giving the family another option of where they can spend time together.
Making the most of the stunning vaulted ceilings, Davonoprt’s design avoids wall cupboards – instead including plenty of under-counter storage, like cupboards, drawers and fridge drawers, while the main fridge-freezer and wine fridge are discreetly hidden away in the beautifully-appointed walk-in pantry.
With plenty of storage space elsewhere, the kitchen features open shelves – bringing airiness and versatility to the room. And the inset shelf behind the sink opens up the possibilities to styling the kitchen in different ways, changing the plants, accessories and pictures on show.
Two perfectly-balanced tall kitchen cabinets face into the room, framing the stunning picture window. These are joined by a window seat, which incorporates additional storage as well as offering a lovely place to take in the breath-taking view.
Choosing a subtle blush pink for cabinets gives the room a stylish, contemporary twist in line with the latest kitchen trends, but also ensures the space has a warm and inviting feel. The colour continues on splash backs and selected walls, to create a cohesive look throughout the open-plan area. The soft shade of pink is complemented with brass hardware and natural wooden accessories – with calm and elegant warm tones of their own.

The Shoreditch is our nod to eclectic, industrial kitchen design.
